Call for Abstracts: 2012 AWS Starr Poster Contest
The Association of Women Surgeons (AWS) is proud to announce its 6th Annual Starr Poster Contest for Medical Students and Residents. The Starr Poster Contest, named for Dr. Nina Starr Braunwald, was designed to facilitate interaction and idea exchange between students interested in surgery, surgical residents, and faculty members of various institutions. Select numbers of medical students and residents will be invited to present their research posters at the AWS 31st Anniversary Conference on Sunday, September 30, 2012 (held in conjunction with the American College of Surgeons Clinical Congress). Authors selected to participate will be asked to register for the AWS conference and must be AWS members by the submission deadline. Recognition and a monetary prize will be awarded for the top 3 medical student posters and top 3 resident posters. The top student and resident poster winner will also receive a complimentary ticket to the AWS Awards Dinner on Monday, October 1, 2012.
The written abstracts will be used to select the poster presentations at the meeting. Topics eligible for submissions are suggested to be surgical in nature, and include: Basic Science, Clinical Outcomes, Epidemiology, and Health Policy. Case reports will NOT be accepted. Please include the following sections in all submissions: Title and Author (including affiliations), Introduction, Methods, Results, and Conclusion. Figures will NOT be accepted. Please limit the entire abstract submission to 400 words or less (excluding the title) and format your abstract submission as a Word Document.
Abstracts must be submitted no later than 5:00 PM EST Sunday, July 1, 2012 by e-mail to the AWS Poster Competition (awspostercompetition@gmail.com). Receipt of your abstract will be confirmed. Please specify if the abstract is free of copyright restrictions and can be posted on the AWS Website if chosen. Selected participants will be announced by Wednesday, August 1, 2012. If selected, you must be prepared to submit a PDF of your poster by September 16, 2012.
